KAM’s project management team at Cranfield University have completed Section 1 (Building 84) of the decarbonisation works on the University’s two World War II aircraft hangars.
The project, funded by BEIS as part of the UK’s carbon reduction strategy, started in May last year and forms part of the university’s wider sustainability plan to be zero carbon by 2030.
The scheme involved internally cladding the hangars, installing new high velocity heating which is fed from the University District Heating network with new AHU’s, replacing the hangar doors with an insulated, fully automated system, and new 1MW air source heat pumps. These changes have ensured better air tightness, helping to reduce the energy input and carbon produced.
It’s great to see the hangers back in action!
